In this article, you will learn the best way to import and edit MTS in Final Cut Pro 7 and FCP X without any plugins.

When you connect your MTS camcorder to the Mac computer, you found the computer recognises your camcorder but FCP cannot. It means FCP will not capture the MTS files directly from your camcorder in this situation. Maybe you want to look for a plugin for FCP, but it is not easy to find a good plugin that works for latest MTS cameras and FCP, since there are many kinds of video codes used by these recording devices.

Even if you backup your footages by only copying MTS files to your Mac local drive folder, no other necessary files such as CPI, Final Cut Pro will still not recognize them, either. Even though you drag those MTS files to load into FCP, FCP will take quite a long time to render those MTS files before those MTS files are loaded into FCP. It is a process called “wrap to MOV” which will be very long in waiting. And you know, AVCHD MTS files in 50P or 60P would be in HD quality and quite large in file size, so the rendering process would slow down, hung or crash your Mac OS if your iMac is not powerful enough in configurations.
